Abstract

Bacterial yeast and fungal cells contain enzymes which perform highly selective metabolic transformation reactions with foreign organic compounds In this paper “Microbial transformations” will refer to reactions catalyzed by microbial enzymes especially when desired and useful metabolites accumulate in fermentation media Microbial transformations have tremendous potential for use in the development of new antitumor drugs Concepts related to microbial transformations which may be relevant to the development of new agents will be discussed The two areas which will be emphasized are
