Abstract
Of course one must either grow old or die young The implicit choice would seem more obvious than it really is or might be in our society Realistically viewed today the late decades of human life are hazardous in their course and have but a single outcome One can perhaps accept with some equanimity most aspects of aging such as decreased agility or muscle strength or lessened acuity of hearing It is not possible however for most of us to regard impassively our own prospects in regard to significant loss of mental ability
