Abstract

Assemblydisassembly of photosystem PS II is a dynamic process that is regulated by light at the transcriptional translational and posttranslational levels Although there is ample evidence for lightregulated expression of PSIIspecific genes 1–3 it is not clear how these regulatory mechanisms operate In the present work we describe the influence of light on steadystate transcript levels of the psbA psbD psbDC and rbcLS genes in the cyanobacterium Synechocystis 6803 4 psbA psbD and psbC encodes the PSII polypeptides Dl D2 and CP43 respectively and rbcL and rbcS encodes the large and small subunit respectively of 15ribulosebisphosphate carboxylase Transcript levels were also studied in constructed mutants of S 6803 with only one intact psbA gene
