Abstract
The area between Endada and Bhimunipatnam an urban expansion of the Visakhapatnam Metrocomplex Region Andhra Pradesh India is mainly underlain by the Eastern Ghats of Precambrian age Geomorphologic units delineated are denudational colluvial fluvial and coastal plains Geoenvironmental appraisal has been made with respect to the geomorphologic units Geoenvironmental hazards include soil and rock characteristics drainage conditions structural features slope stability gully erosion beach erosion sea spray depth to water table and groundwater quality which impart considerable restraints on the urbanization of the area Effective land use management measures are suggested to avoid the adverse impacts on the area for sustainable developmentThe authors thank Professor BRG Reddy Department of Geology Andhra University Visakhapatnam India and Dr RS Rao then Director and Dr Y Ramesh Scientist Andhra Pradesh State Remote Sensing Applications Center Hyderabad India for their valuable suggestions during the research work and also Regional Director State Groundwater Department Visakhapatnam for providing geological data on the area The authors also thank Professor K Kameswara Rao Department of Environmental Sciences Andhra University Visakhapatnam India for his helpful suggestions in improving the quality of manuscript Financial assistance from the University Grants Commission New Delhi India is gratefully acknowledged The authors express their gratitude to anonymous reviewers for meticulously scrutinizing the manuscript and for their valuable suggestions
