Abstract
During the last decades industrialised countries have been characterised by increasing age of women at first and subsequent births and by belowreplacement fertility At the same time the educational attainment of young women has been increasing The contributions to “Education and Postponement of Maternity” examine various aspects of educational attainment and postponement of maternity for ten different industrialised countries Is the relation between the timing of motherhood and education the same in different countries Is it the lack of income during student life competing time investments or the future income prospects that delay motherhood Does student life delay finding a partner or do higher educated couples wait longer to become parents Do highly educated couples have fewer children than less educated ones The chapters of this book contribute to answering these and other related questions Seven out of 12 chapters are published in peer reviewed journals including
