Abstract

It is a pleasure to welcome Aesthetic Surgery Journals newest international affiliate society the Indian Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons IAAPS The IAAPS joins the Journals nine other international affiliates representing Asia Central America South America Europe and the Middle EastWith a population of more than 1 billion people India comprises nearly onesixth of the worlds population and by 2030 is expected to be the worlds most populous country1 Plastic surgery has a long history in India dating back at least 4000 years2 Plastic surgeons are familiar with the fact that early flap techniques in rhinoplasty originated in India In 21stcentury India with its booming economy and burgeoning middle class many types of aesthetic surgical and nonsurgical procedures are in demand not only by women but also increasingly by men3The IAAPS is the only professional organization in India dedicated to improved cosmetic surgery outcomes through education research and the maintenance of high surgical standards of clinical practice The Associations current president is the distinguished Dr Lokesh Kumar Senior Consultant to the Department of Plastic Reconstructive Surgery Indraprastha Apollo Hospital New Delhi and its membership is comprised of fully trained and certified specialists in plastic surgery4
