Abstract
The Journal of Consumer Policy has thrived in no small part because of the willingness of top scholars in the field to volunteer their time and effort to provide essential feedback on manuscripts submitted to the journal In recognition of these contributions the editors have established the Outstanding Reviewer AwardThe Outstanding Reviewer Award recognizes on an annual basis a member of the editorial board who consistently provides reviews of manuscripts that have improved the quality of editorial decisions and have significantly improved the quality of manuscripts published in the Journal of Consumer Policy The Journal will recognize one of its editorial board members each year with a cash award of 300 euroThe recipient will be selected by a majority vote of the editors of the journal The selection will be made at the annual editors meeting and will be based on reviews covering the previous three years All reviewers who have provided four or more reviews over the course of three years are eligible for the awardTo mark the beginning of this award two reviewers who have been exceptionally valuable for the Journal in the past decades will be awarded in 2009 Rob Mayer and Pauline Ippolito Professor Mayer is a longstanding member of the editorial board and a Professor at the University of Utah Dr Mayer conducts research on consumer movements and consumer policy His work on consumer movements focuses on the history goals tactics and accomplishments of the movements both in the US and in other countries Dr Mayer’s policy evaluation research has covered topics related to consumer safety and warning labels marketing claims and consumer information systems deregulation in the airline and telecommunications industries and public participation in government rule makingDr Ippolito is also a longstanding member of the editorial board and has had a variety of leadership positions at the United States Federal Trade Commission Her research and policy experience has had a significant impact on consumer protection policy Her research is focused on the economics of information which has shaped how governments think about advertising and regulatory policy
