Abstract

Titanium base alloyTi6Al4V Ti64 is extensively used in aero gas turbine Kaveri engine for various applications Majority of the wrought Ti64 components in the engine are processed through ring rolling/ forging route Indigenous development and productionisation of the ring forgings have been carried out using the ring rolling mill and allied forging facilities of M/s HAL FF Bangalore / M/s Echjay Industries Rajkot Type certified indigenous Ti64 forging stock of size up to 250mm diameter from M/s Mishra Dhatu Nigam Ltd MIDHANI Hyderabad has been used for the development and subsequent productionisation Satisfactory metallurgical and mechanical properties have been achieved in Ti64 alloy ring forgings as per the release specification Total 79 batches of 29 varieties of the Ti64 ring forgings for Kaveri engine have been indigenously produced and supplied This paper presents details of the work done for the indigenous development of Ti64 ring forgings of various sizes for Kaveri engine
