Abstract

In the present paper we give a new approach in proving the common variationdiminishing property for operators of a certain form and we apply this method in order to show that some wellknown positive linear operators have this property The introduction includes several historical remarks in it also a first attempt is made to draw clear lines between the various meanings of ”variationdiminuition” which were employed in the past
