An unusual skin lesion due to confluent postmortem ecchymoses in keloid scars

A 23-year-old man (height 191 cm, weight 100 kg) was found dead in his flat, lying in a prone position in his bed. He had suffered from tuberous sclerosis since birth with severe epileptic seizures. Therapy with Vigabatrin made him free of seizures from the age of 10 years. Sixteen months before his death, nightly seizures had reappeared with convulsions of the facial muscles accompanied by vocalizations and vomiting. He also suffered from a borderline syndrome, depression with self-inflected incised wounds, and he had been abusing cannabis and alcohol since 14 years of age. A medico-legal autopsy was performed to clarify the cause of death and to rule out third party involvement.External examination showed intense non-blanchable livor mortis on the front of the body with numerous postmortem ecchymoses.
