Abstract

In 191213 Stebbing erected the genera Holostylis and Ekdiastylis for those diastylids with the endopod of the uropods being one and twosegmented respectively The validity of the genus Holostylis is still controversial and the genus Ekdiastylis continues to be suppressed In the present contribution two new diastylids are fully described and illustrated one of them has the endopod of the uropod onesegmented Holostylis uniramosa n sp and the other has the endopod of the uropod twosegmented Diastylis decalineata n sp The genus Holostylis has currently three nominal species which are easily distinguished from each other by the number of thoracic appendages with fully developed exopods in females three in H helleri Zimmer 1908 one in H spinicuadata BłażewiczPaszkowycz and Heard 2005 and none in H uniramosa n sp The validity of genus Holostylis is confirmed and its diagnosis emended Diastylis decalineata n sp mainly distinguished from the other species of Diastylis with twosegmented uropod endopods by the shape and sculpture of its carapaceWe thank the crew of the R/V Puerto Deseado for their assistance in the collection of the material during the surveys Mejillón II COPLA II TALUD CONTINENTAL 2012 and CAV 2013 We also thank Fabián Tricárico MACN for the SEM photographs and Karen Osborn and Rafael Lemaitre NMNH Smithsonian Institution for the digital images of the holotype of Holostylis spinicauda they kindly sent to us We are also grateful to the three anonymous reviewers for their valuable comments and suggestions This research was supported by the Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas Argentina PIP 11220090100244 and the Universidad de Buenos Aires UBACyT 20020100100857
