Abstract
The concept of fluid flow under consolidation pressure amid micro porous media generated keen interest among several early investigators conceiving effective stresses as early as Terzaghi 1925 and reported by De Boer 2005 The Biot’s 1941 brought significant development to the understanding of 3D consolidation Along with the progresses in anisotropic consolidation Kubik 1979 Kubik and Sawczuk 1983 the author offers an impressive set of observations on the rate of consolidation of granular materials The trends revealed by the paper are overall coherent with numerical data on initially isotropic consolidation process bifurcating from 1D drainage characteristics and tend to adopt 2D or 3D drainage However owing to depositional and sedimentation dependent anisotropy Trivedi et al 2015a the consolidation process may be anisotropic and resultant deformations can be estimated by a numerically consistent formulation This discussion focuses on one admittedly minor but
