Interdiffusion in FCC CoAlTi Ternary Alloys

Abstract

Interdiffusion in the FCC phase of the CoAlTi ternary system was investigated at 1373 and 1473 K by analyzing diffusioncouples composed of appropriate pairs of terminal alloys From the concentration profiles acquired by electron probe microanalysis and thereafter represented by error function expansion the ternary interdiffusion coefficients were extracted by using the WhittleGreen method whereas the impurity coefficients ie Al diffusion in the CoTi binary alloys and Ti in CoAl were determined by the generalized Hall method For all concentrations the ternary main interdiffusion coefficients tildeD textAlAltextCo tildeD textTiTitextCo and the cross coefficients tildeD textTiAltextCo were found to increase with its own concentrations whereas the cross term tildeD textAlTitextCo varies only slightly with Al The values of the impurity diffusion coefficients D AlCoTi and D TiCoAl increase with increasing the Ti and Al concentrations respectively at 1373 K while they are less dependent on concentrations at 1473 KThe authors would like to thank the National Natural Science Foundation of China No 51301135 and the Program of Introducing Talents of Discipline to Universities B08040 for financial support Yi Chen wishes to gratefully acknowledge the financial support by the Chinese Scholarship Council CSC
