Abstract
The business world has recently been staggered by radical changes that no one could have imagined with the Dow Jones Industrial Average DOW at 2002 levels and the Nikkei Index at it 26 year low but one thing remains the same—companies still need to grow or they die And the best way to grow is to innovate Investors reeling from the disasters of the last few weeks should take note of what Henry Ford knew 100 years ago—no place in the world is better at innovation than the United StatesAs a recent issue of the Economist points out October 18th 2008 the origin of the word for “credit” comes from the Latin word credere to believe or trust In many ways the current credit crisis is a crisis of trust One thing that remains particularly trustworthy is the research infrastructure that we have built in the United States
