Abstract

The aim of this study was to examine the acceptability and reliability of telephone administration of the parent’s version of the Children’s Interview for Psychiatric Syndromes PChIPS a diagnostic interview examining 21 separate psychiatric syndromes compared with facetoface administration Parents of 12 participants—seven boys and five girls—completed this preliminary study The mean age of the children was 122 years SD 39 years In comparing telephone and facetoface administrations of the PChIPS the percent agreement for each diagnosis was 75 to 100 with an average percent agreement of 938 across all disorders assessed Results of the facetoface and telephone administration of the PChIPS were comparable but this needs to be confirmed using a larger sampleDrs Ronald and Elizabeth Weller are coowners of the ChIPS/PChIPS and have received annual royalties from copyright ownership of this diagnostic interview Dr Elizabeth Weller was the principal investigator for a grant from GlaxoSmithKline to investigate the tolerability and efficacy of lamotrigine in children and adolescents diagnosed with bipolar disorder No other potential conflicts of interest relevant to this article were reported
