Abstract
The “Haus des Deutschen Ostens” HDO a centre for the Germans originating in Eastern Europe in Munich celebrated ist 40th anniversary in 2010 It had been founded in 1970 by the Bavarian Ministry for Employment and Social Affairs to offer those new Bavarian fellowcitizens who had come from Eastern Europe a forum to express their manifold Eastern German cultural efforts This article offers a survey over the historical development of the HDO its aims tasks and activities today and in conclusion reflects on the future of this institution
