Abstract
The menisci plays a key role in the knee joint Meniscal tears are the most common knee injuries It is none that complete or partial meniscectomy predispose the knee to degenerative joint disease However artrhoscopic meniscectomy remains the most frequently perform orthopaedic procedure Therefore it would be seem logical to try to preserve meniscal tissue by repair reconstruction or replacements None of these procedures has been completely successfull and can be considered suitable for all patients as meniscal tears require specific and patientrelated treatments depending on the size and type of lesion Recent advances in cell biology biomaterial science and bioengineering have now the potential to drive meniscus regeneration into a series of clinically relevant strategies
