Abstract
The ethnic/minority psychiatric inpatient units ie focus units at the University of California San Francisco train residents in transcultural psychiatry This article describes the history goals and educational program that comprise this unique training experience Two cases from the Asian Focus Unit illustrate how residents learn transcultural psychiatry during interactions with ethnic Asian patients and staff Educational perspectives and current program evaluation are discussed
