Abstract
This research examines the life values of college students during an economic and financial crisis We study whether students’ values are compatible with the entrepreneurial motivations that could help them to succeed in a labor market characterized by uncertainty instability and multiple career transitions Data are obtained from a sample of 263 college students using the WIS Values Scale and are compared with data obtained eight years ago when this crisis was not expected We find that achievement is an important motivator students however do not like to take risks Additionally entrepreneurial values such as Authority and Autonomy are not highly valued by students Current work issues require individuals to be agents proactively creating their own opportunities rather than passively waiting for them Our findings suggest the need for universities to assume a role as providers of career education interventions that help students develop the skills attitudes and motivations required to cope with actual labor market challenges
