Abstract
We read with great interest a recent review article by Wikstrom and Brown 1 who recommended the use of the term “coper” when describing individuals who have suffered lateral ankle sprain but did not go on to develop chronic ankle instability CAI The abovementioned article reviewed a number of research reports published after the first report in 2008 2 which started to categorize individuals who suffered from an ankle sprain as copers or noncopers In the spirit of constructive critique and to move forward the discussion on this important issue we would like to raise some concerns regarding the widespread use of the term coper in CAI research In our opinion the term coper may be a misnomer and should be used with caution
