Abstract

We would like to thank Dr B Vinay et al for their observations on their Fabius GS and Primus Anesthesia Workstations Drägerwerk AG Co KGaA Germany 1 which show that disconnecting a refillable soda lime absorber leads to a progressive fall of both the inspired oxygen FIO2 and anesthetic agent concentration While we agree with the authors that anesthesia providers have to understand the working principles of their workstations we also believe some additional clarifications are warranted In particular it has to be understood that the effect of creating a large leak in the system differs from the effect of a fresh gas flow FGF shortage
