Abstract
Flipped learning in spirit state has haunted the halls of higher education for years The very nature of higher education as a traditionally semiautonomous community has many influences that can be seen as forerunners to the popular flipped learning approach found in all levels of education Flipped learning is the contemporary label for positioning direct instruction outside of class allowing groupmeeting time to be more active and engaging Flipped Learning Network 2014 This column is a brief discussion of the significant postsecondary and higher education developments occurring over the past century that share the philosophy of flipped instruction While some are not entirely true to the defined flipped learning methodology they all have components that align with the spirit of the conceptual model
