Abstract

This informative provocative and challenging monograph has been written by two wellknown authorities in the field of otolaryngology audiology and phonetics The book is based upon the principles and practices of the Audiology Unit of the Royal National Throat Nose and Ear Hospital in London and the Institute of Laryngology and Otology in the University of London The authors have written the monograph primarily for otologists pediatricians medical officers of health and general practitioners as an expansion of the Audiology Unit lectures which began in 1956 In my opinion this monograph will be of interest to all those concerned with the diagnostic evaluation and management of the deaf childThere are nine chapters in the monograph The first two chapters cover the evolution development of hearing and speech and the central processes together with a description of the authors philosophy of the auditory approach and their conclusions that early detection
