Abstract

So far the production of biseugenol has been conducted by chemical synthesis However because chemical synthesis of biseugenol has disadvantages such as regioselectivity and low yield an environmentally friendly production of biseugenol by biological synthesis has become attractive In the present study biseugenol was produced using Kalopanax pictus callus culture Highperformance liquid chromatography analysis of reaction product revealed a new peak whose structure was determined to be biseugenol by nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy After 18 h of biotransformation using K pictus cell 163 mg/L of biseugenol was produced without any byproducts This is the first report on production of biseugenol by biotransformation using plant cell culture
