Abstract
Distal femur and proximal tibial fractures are the most common occurrence in multiplefracture patients after motor vehicle injuries The association of distal femur and proximal tibia commonly known as “floating knee” is relatively common in motorcycle accidents This typical lesion has an unfortunately high incidence of associated neurovascular lesions The presence of multiple fractures or serious soft tissue injuries addresses our strategy towards a “damage control” approach The recent technological and surgical evolution of intramedullary nailing has noticeably enhanced our treatment options in these patients In this setting rigid internal fixation should be limited to minimally invasive anatomical plating
