Abstract
Since the first paperback edition appeared in 1965 Greens textbook of gynecology has proved to be one of the most popular on the subject especially among medical students and residents The third revision is an update of the 1971 edition and provides an excellent approach to the fundamentals of gynecologyThe chapters on various gynecologic problems are well organized and each is followed by a brief but well chosen list of references Subjects covered include diagnostic procedures congenital anomalies endocrine and functional disorders infertility contraception relaxations infections and tumors A chapter on diseases of the breast has been added to the latest edition Breast disorders and diagnostic techniques are well covered although some general surgeons particularly those specializing in breast disease might question the role of the average gynecologist in undertaking the treatment of breast cancer or dispute the categorical statements on radical surgery
