Abstract
Calcium phosphate cement CPC composite by the incorporation of chitosan fiber CF and gelatin was investigated for flexural strength phase composition microstructure and in vitro cellular response The results demonstrated that the incorporation improved the flexural strength significantly maximum 1231 MPa together with accelerating the conversion of CPC components to hydroxyapatite HA Rat bone marrow stromal cells RBMSCs spread and grew actively on the composite discs Shortterm minimum essential medium MEM extraction tests showed no cell growth inhibition These results indicated that the new composite not only had a reinforced flexural property but it was also beneficial for RBMSC growth
