Abstract
The crystal structure and the formation conditions of crystals of the LiFe5O8 ordered phase obtained from the solutionmelt of the Bi2O3Fe2O3B2O3LiCl quadruple system are refined The crystals are black octahedral of cubic symmetry space group P4332 Unit cell parameters a = 833391 Å V = 578821 Å3 Z = 4 d calc = 4753 g/cm3 From 6046 of the collected array I hkl 358 are independent R int = 00321 As a result of anisotropic refinement of structural parameters R 1 factor is found to be 00186 wR 2 = 00467 Lithium atoms are in octahedral environment LiO is 21091 Å iron atoms are of two types in octahedra with FeO by two distances of 195869 Å 201529 Å and 2065210 Å and tetrahedra with FeO three 1884810 Å and 19142 Å The structure is of inverted spinel type
