Abstract
There are few topics in medicine that evoke such strongly opposing views as hyperbaric oxygen HBO therapy especially when discussed as a treatment for neurological disorders Proponents argue that HBO is a clinically effective therapy that should hold a complementary place in the therapeutic armamentarium whereas opponents contend that HBO remains unproven and is needless expensive and potentially unsafe There are also those who hold a middle ground admitting that HBO may exert a therapeutic effect under certain specific conditions but who rightfully refrain from recommending it on a routine clinical basis and acknowledge that effective protocols carrying minimum risk have yet to be developed and validated
