Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease NAFLD is recognized as the leading cause of chronic liver disease NAFLD includes a disease spectrum ranging from simple steatosis to nonalcoholic steatohepatitis NASH liver fibrosis and cirrhosis Data from animal and clinical studies indicate that Tumor Necrosis Factor TNFα signaling via its receptor TNFR1 plays a proinflammatory role in the pathogenesis of NAFLD and NASH However the exact mechanism that drives the inflammation in NAFLD and NASH remains unclear
