Abstract
The central melanocortin system is known to regulate food intake adiposity blood pressure and glucose metabolism Recently it has been reported that the melanocortin system also regulates cholesterol metabolism Studies in wildtype rats and mice showed increased HDL cholesterol levels upon chronic central infusion with SHU9119 a melanocortin 3/4 receptor antagonist possibly due to modulation of hepatic pathways controlling cholesterol reuptake
