Medicinal Plants of Central Asia Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan Eisenman Sasha W David E Zaurov and Lena Struwe 2013 Springer 233 Springer Street New York NY 10013 http//wwwspringercom/life+sciences/biochemistry+26+biophysics/book/9781461439110 xii + 340 pp hardcover USD 18900 ISBN 9781461439127Discorides’ Materia medica the Avesta of the Zoroastrians and Avicenna’s Canon of Medicine are just a few of the places in which medicinal uses of plants that grow in Central Asia were recorded Many of those plants are in this book which lists over 200 plants growing in Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan that have been used in traditional medicine in the region and are indicated by more recent scientific research to be of medicinal interest In the preface plants documented in this book are described as important although the criteria used to select plants for inclusion are not specifically outlined
