Abstract
Two Gramstainingpositive aerobic motile endosporeforming rodshaped bacteria designated strains Y24T and H9T were isolated from cold spring and carrot Daucus L samples respectively in Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region northwestern China The taxonomic positions of the two new isolates were determined by using a polyphasic approach Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences and DNA–DNA hybridizations showed that strains Y24T and H9T were two different novel species belonging to the genus Paenibacillus with Paenibacillus hunanensis FeL05T as their closest relative The genomic DNA G + C contents of the two isolates Y24T and H9T were 481 and 466 mol respectively The cell wall peptidoglycan contained mesodiaminopimelic acid The predominant menaquinone was both as MK7 The major cellular fatty acids were anteisoC150 C160 isoC160 anteisoC170 and isoC150 The polar lipid profiles consisted of phosphatidylglycerol diphosphatidylglycerol phosphatidylethanolamine and two glycolipids as the major components On the basis of their phenotypic characteristics the two isolates represent two different novel species of the genus Paenibacillus for which the names Paenibacillus wulumuqiensis sp nov type strain Y24T = CPCC 100602T = JCM 30284T and Paenibacillus dauci sp nov type strain H9T = CPCC 100608T = JCM 30283T are proposedThe authors are grateful to Dr XiaoXia Zhang Institute of Agricultural Resources and Regional Planning Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences for her kind providing the reference type strain and Prof Aharon Oren The Hebrew University of Jerusalem Israel for his kind help with the Latin etymology for the new species This research work was supported by Chinese national program of high technology research and development Grant nos 2012AA021705 and 2012AA063503 WJ Li was also supported by the Hundred Talents Program of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Guangdong Province Higher Vocational Colleges Schools Pearl River Scholar Funded Scheme 2014
