Abstract
One possibility of reducing the weight of a car engine is choosing the correct material Engines with the same cylinder capacity can work under higher stress loads and large volume engines can be replaced by such engines with smaller volumes but the same power This is possible because compacted graphite iron CGI has a much higher tensile strength compared to grey iron GI and aluminium alloys As well as a lighter weight Halberg Guss also aim to support its customers by improving machinability Therefore a highly innovative project has been defined to get a layer of GI on top of the CGI cylinder bore
