Abstract
Maedi Visna Virus is a Lentivirus of the Retroviridae family which causes a chronic lymphoproliferative disease in the lungs Maedi central nervous system Visna udder and joints in sheep The MVV genome is a dimer of RNA which is reverse transcribed into proviral DNA some of which will be integrated into the chromosomal DNA of the host cells The infection persists for life in sheep despite a humoral and cellular immune response Pepin et al 1998Monocytemacrophages are considered the main target cells but MVV has also been detected in other cell types such as fibroblasts dendritic cells epithelial cells endothelial cells adipocytes and microglial cells Carrozza et al 2003 Brellou et al 2007 The virus has already been detected not only in the lungs CNS udder and joints but also in the kidney liver heart spleen bone marrow and third eyelids of infected sheep Capucchio et al 2003 Preziuso et al 2003 Angelopoulou et al 2006 Brellou et
