Abstract
Pancreatic cancer is a leading cause of cancerrelated death with an incidence closely mirroring mortality It is estimated that 43140 cases will be diagnosed and 36800 will die of this disease in the USA in 2010 Pancreatic metastases from an extrapancreatic site account for approximately 1 to 5 of all pancreatic malignancies 1 2 3 4 5 Isolated metastases are rare and often misdiagnosed as primary tumors 3 5 6 In a large study by Adsay et al in 2004 of 973 surgically resected pancreatic malignancies 38 39 were secondary tumors Of these most common were lymphomas 11 cases followed by stomach n = 7 kidney n = 6 lung n = 2 and single cases each of prostate liver ovary uterus and Merkel cell carcinoma 3 In this study we describe a case of SPT metastatic from a squamous cell lung primary We also aim to study the prevalence clinicopathologic features and management of secondary pancreatic tumors SPT at our institution
