Abstract
Seventyeight consecutive cases of HCC 47 hepatitis and 31 nonhepatitis cases were studied Microvessel numbers were assessed by staining for the antigens CD31 CD34 and CD240 The highest number of microvessel density and number of vessels were counted in the tumor and the mean value represented the final MVD Overall survival OS was analyzed between the two groupsVHrHCC and NHrHCC were observed in 47 and 31 cases respectively No significant differences were seen between the VHrHCC and NHrHCC groups with respect to age gender or ChildPugh class distribution Mean number of vessels was significantly higher in HrHCC using CD31 977 vs 837 and CD34 824 vs 719 p value 0025 and 0039 respectively Higher MVD was detected in HrHCC compared to NHrHCC using CD31 49 vs 44 and CD34 47 vs 43 p value 00095 and 00190 respectively No significant difference was observed between VHrHCC and NHrHCC using CD240 immunostaining for MVD p value 00945 and 0906 respectively Overall survival was not statistically significantly different between VHrHCC and NHrHCC groups p value 0104
