Abstract

The NCI Summer Curriculum in Cancer Prevention SCCP has provided interdisciplinary training in cancer prevention and control to cancer healthcare professionals including nurses physicians and scientists since 1986 It has trained over 1200 participants 256 of them from Ireland and Northern Ireland through two summer courses a 4week course on Principles and Practice of Cancer Prevention and Control PP and 1week on Molecular Prevention MP This report is our attempt to measure achievements and level of satisfaction among alumni from the island of Ireland upon return to their home institution A questionnaire was developed to assess this Our analysis found statistically significant differences in the types of accomplishments reported among respondents of the MP and PP courses as well as statistically significant differences in their level of satisfaction More data are needed to better explain the differences observed as well as level of resources available to alumni upon their return homeWe would like thank the NCIs Cancer Prevention Fellowship Office Director Dr David Nelson Associate Director Dr Jessica FaupelBadger and Program Assistant Ms Studly Auguste for their continued support of allIreland participants in the SCCP as well as for their contribution to data with regards to nonallIreland participants We would also like to thank the HRBs Head of Unit Research Infrastructure and Special Initiatives Dr Anne Cody and the HSC RDs Program manager for nursing Dr Nicola Armstrong for their continued support and contribution to the funders selection criteria
