Abstract
A new family of luminescent platinumII acetylide complexes and polymers were formed by the copperI catalyzed reaction of cisPtCl2PR32 R=C6H5–pCH3 with appropriate acetylide ligands The reaction of metal precursors with 25 equivalents of monoterminal acetylide ligands provided metal complexes transPtptolyl3P2C≡CR2 R=C6H4pNO2 1 C6H4 pCH3 2 and equimolar amounts of diterminal ligand and metal chloride precursor under reflux afforded the metal polyyne polymers Ptptolyl3P2C≡C–R–C≡C–n R=biphenyl and 25dioctyloxybenzene Characterization of the newly developed polymer and metal complexes was accomplished by FTIR multinuclear NMR 1H 31P 13C and mass spectrometry as well as elemental analysis The molecular structure of the metal complex transPtptolyl3P2C≡CC6H4–pNO22 1 was confirmed by single crystal Xray crystallography The electronic absorption and photoluminescence spectra of the metal complexes and polymers have been used to probe their photophysical properties The studies reveal that the presence of heavy metal atom and substituent groups on the phenyl ring of the ligands can enhance the efficiency of intersystem crossing from the S1 singlet excited state to the T1 triplet excited state and thus give intense phosphorescenceFinancial support from Shahjalal University of Science and Technology Sylhet Bangladesh is gratefully acknowledged We also thank the National Natural Science Foundation of China Project Number 51373145 Hong Kong Baptist University FRG2/1213/083 Hong Kong Research Grants Council HKBU203312 and HKUST2/CRF/10 Areas of Excellence Scheme University Grants Committee of HKSAR Project No AoE/P03/08 Natural Science Foundation of Hubei Province of China 2013CFA087 and Hubei Province HighEnd Talent Training Program The work was also supported by Partner State Key Laboratory of Environmental and Biological Analysis and Strategic Development Fund of HKBU Y H Lo gratefully acknowledges the financial support from the National Science Council of Taiwan NSC 1022113M845001 and the project of the specific research fields in the University of Taipei Taiwan H Li thanks the 111 Project and Beijing Engineering Research Center of Food Environment and Public Health from Minzu University of China No B08044 and No1030101404026 for financial support
