Abstract

A 5yearold boy developed Cryptococcus neoformans septicemia and elevated ALT during treatment with dexamethasone methotrexate mercaptopurine cefepime and vancomycin Not all routes dosages durations of treatment to reactions onset and outcomes statedThe boy with Down syndrome and acute lymphoblastic leukaemia was treated with 4 weeks of 3 drug standard induction chemotherapy including oral dexamethasone daily By day 29 he achieved complete remission Without interrupting his chemotherapy he was continued on nystatin and pneumocystis jiroveci pneumonia prophylaxis He was then started on cyclic maintenance therapy including oral dexamethasone for 5 days every 4 weeks oral methotrexate weekly and oral mercaptopurine daily during
