Abstract
“I do not know what I may appear to the world but to myself I seem to have been only like a boy playing on the seashore and diverting myself in now and then finding a smoother pebble or a prettier shell than ordinary whilst the great ocean of truth lay all undiscovered before me” Sir Isaac Newton Remark 1727Newton’s remarks could be applied to all of the myriad questions that remain or are as yet not even imagined with regard to women’s health and urogynecology in particular To be sure we understand today more than we did 10 years ago but some of what we thought we understood has been refuted leaving behind glaring ignorance In other instances we accept a level of understanding that is far too simplistic to be adequately representative of the problems Pelvic floor dysfunction to include at least urinary and fecal incontinence as well as pelvic organ prolapse is complicated Everyone admits this but just how much do we really believe it How many of us model our thinking
