Abstract
Sulfonated polyether ether ketone/polyvinylidene fluoride/graphene S/P/G composite membrane was prepared through a solutioncasting method for a vanadium redox flow battery VRB and the weight ratio of high sulfonated polyether ether ketone SPEEK polyvinylidene fluoride PVDF and graphene was optimized The preferred S/P/G7 composite membrane showed the lowest VO2+ permeability and highest ion selectivity compared with other four kinds of cation exchange membranes SPEEK75 heterogeneous PSSAPE Nafion 117 and recast Nafion rNafion The VRB with S/P/G7 membrane exhibited the higher coulombic efficiency of ∼8 and energy efficiency of ∼4 but lower capacity loss and selfdischarge than that of VRB with Nafion117 membrane during cycling tests which further indicated the promising prospects of S/P/G7 composite membrane in VRB applicationAll authors herein are grateful to the support from the National Scientific Foundation of China NSFC Project No 21306119 Provincial Natural Science Foundation of Sichuan 2013FZ0034 2013JY0150 2016GZ0423 Outstanding Young Scientist Foundation of Sichuan University 2013SCU04A23 Dongfang Electric Corporation 13H0844 and China Academy of Engineering Physics HG2012039 KF13007
