Abstract

Ecological studies on Gibbula umbilicalis da Costa 1778 were undertaken in Portugal specifically to contribute to the COST 647 programme This paper describes the reproductive cycle and the annual changes in the population sizestructure and makes comparisons with similar data from the species northern geographical limits The major latitudinal changes are a longer spawning period extending later in the autumn smaller maximum sizes and shorter life spans
