Abstract
Dietary restriction DR is one of the most robust environmental manipulations that not only extend life span but also delay the onset of agerelated diseases in almost every species examined Caenorhabditis elegans plays an important role in aging studies due to its simple life cycle easy genetic manipulations and highly conserved genome Recent studies have demonstrated that the beneficial effects of DR are mediated by the highly conserved transcription factors and signaling pathways in C elegans Here we review recent progress in the methodology and molecular mechanisms of DR using C elegans as a model as well as prospects for future researchThis article is published under license to BioMed Central Ltd Open Access This article is distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution License which permits any use distribution and reproduction in any medium provided the original authors and source are creditedThis article is published under an open access license Please check the Copyright Information section for details of this license and what reuse is permitted If your intended use exceeds what is permitted by the license or if you are unable to locate the licence and reuse information please contact the Rights and Permissions team
