Abstract

The behaviour of a threelevel system consisting of two groundstate sublevels optically coupled to a common excited state is analysed An exact steady solution of the semiclassical equations of motion for the density matrix is obtained within the RWA and then numerically investigated When the frequency difference of the two applied fields becomes equal to the frequency splitting of the lower levels a mechanism of transverse optical pumping takes place that accumulates all the atoms in a coherent superposition state of the ground sublevels in which they are no longer able to absorb the pumping fields The effect is due to nonlinear effects of coherence and is responsible for the appearance of a very strong and narrow resonance in the system response Moreover if the interaction energies of the two transitions have different magnitude another resonance appears which corresponds to the powershifted twophoton transition between the lower sublevels The reported results are in agreement with experimental phenomena recently observedАнализируется поведение трехуровневой системы состоящей из двух подуровней основного состояния оптически связаанных с возбужденным состоянием Получается точное стационарное решение полуклассических уравнений движения для матрицы плотности в рамках RWA Полученное решение исследуется численно Когда разность частот двух приложенных полей становится равной частоте расщеплення низших уровней то имеет место механизм поперечной оптической накачки который аккумулирует все атомы в состоянии представляющем когерентную суперпозицию основных подуровней в котором они не морут больше поглощать поля накачки Рассматриваемый эффект обусловлен нелинейными эффектами когерентности Этот эффект является ответственным за появление очень сильного и узкого резонанса в системе отклика Кроме того если энергии взаимодействия двух переходов имеют различную величину то появляется другой резонанц который соответствует двухфотонным переходам между низшими подуровнями Приведенные результаты согласуются с недавно наблюденными экспентальными явлениямиSi analizza il comportamento di un sistema a tre livelli che consiste di due sottolivelli dello stato fondamentale otticamente accoppiati a uno stato eccitato comune Si ottiene una soluzione fissa esatta dellequazioni semiclassiche di moto per la matrice di densità entro lRWA e quindi studiata dal punto di vista numerico Quando la differenza di frequenza dei due campi applicati diventa uguale alla separazione di frequenza dei livelli più bassi si verifica un meccanismo di pompaggio ottico trasversale che accumula tutti gli atomi in uno stato di sovrapposizione coerente dei sottolivelli di base nel quale essi non sono più in grado di assorbire i campi di pompaggio Leffetto è dovuto a effetti non lineari di coerenza ed è responsabile della comparasa di una risonanza molto forte e stretta nella risposta del sistema Inoltre se le energie di interazione delle due transizioni hanno grandezza diversa compare unaltra risonanza che corrisponde alla transizione a due fotoni con potenza spostata tra i sottolivelli più bassi I risultati riportati sono in accordo con fenomeni sperimentali osservati recentemente
