Abstract

The cMyb transcription factor controls differentiation and proliferation in hematopoietic and other cell types and has latent in regulation during the cell cycle Recent studies suggested that deregulation of cMyb expression plays a key role in oncogenesis To investigate the potential roles of cMyb in esophageal carcinoma expression of cMyb was examined in human esophageal carcinoma samplesImmunohistochemistry and Western blot analysis were performed for cMyb in 87 esophageal carcinoma samples The data were correlated with clinicopathological features The univariate and multivariate survival analyses were also performed to determine their prognostic significancecMyb was overexpressed in esophageal carcinoma as compared with the adjacent normal tissue High expression of cMyb was associated with histological grade and was positively correlated with proliferation marker Ki67 P = 0001 Univariate analysis showed that cMyb expression was associated with poor prognosis P  0001 Multivariate analysis indicated that cMyb was an independent prognostic marker for esophageal carcinoma P  0001 While in vitro following release from serum starvation of TE1 esophageal carcinoma cell the expression of cMyb was upregulatedThis work was supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China No 30972937 Specialized Research Fund for the Doctoral Program of Higher Education for new teachers No 20070246131 Jiangsu “six personnel peak” talentfunded projects No 2006113 Natural Science Foundation of Jiangsu province No BK2006546 No BK2009156 No BK2009157 and No BK2009161 A Project Funded by the Priority Academic Program Development of Jiangsu Higher Education Institutions PAPD
