Abstract
Two methods for the synthesis of 3styrylquinolin41Hones are presented and discussed One involves the Heck reaction of a 3haloquinolin41Hone with styrene derivatives under classical heating conditions and microwave irradiation The second one has two alternative synthetic routes one pathway involves the Wittig reaction of quinolin41Hone3carbaldehyde with benzylic ylides and the other one involves the Wittig reaction of 4chloroquinoline3carbaldehyde with the same ylides The diastereomeric selectivity Z/E of 3styrylquinolin41Hones obtained in each synthetic strategic is discussed and compared The last method was also applied to the synthesis of quinolin41Hones bearing 3substituents with extended πconjugated systemsThanks are due to the University of Aveiro FCT and FEDER for funding the Organic Chemistry Research Unit project PEstC/QUI/UI0062/2013 Andreia I S Almeida and Raquel S G R Seixas also thank FCT for their Grants SFRH/BD/40632/2007 and SFRH/BPD/74282/2010 respectively
