Abstract
Nanosize threedimensional 3D dark spots with a light shell in enhanced local optical fields generated by a plasmonic metalcoated conical dielectric probe with a nanorod are investigated numerically The 3D dark spots are due to interference among plasmonenhanced local fields It is found that two kinds of 3D dark spots are generated in the free space in the vicinity of the nanorod One is generated near the rod end and has a disk shape The other is generated around the nanorod and has a toroidal shape Both kinds of 3D dark spots have nanoscale dimensions because they are generated by interference between near fields
