Abstract
Fluorescence and Xray crystallographic results for ammonium adducts of an anthraquinonecontaining polyether macrocycle 18oxybisethyleneoxyethyleneoxyanthracene910dione 1 and an openchain fluorinated analogue are presented The crystal structure of a pseudopolymorph of a hydrate of compound 1 is also presented 1 2·NH4PF6·MeOH 2 triclinic P1 a=10594813 b=149032 c=159182 α=712603 β=820632 γ=692582 Z=2 5250 reflections I≥2σI R1=00487 wR2=01190 1732 K 1 4 ·H2O Triclinic P1 a=1200848 b=1380509 c=23802716 α=1060681 β=982811 γ=900471 Z=8 8402 reflections I≥2σI R1=00488 wR2=01086 1002 K Different anti and gauche ring conformations are observed for macrocycles with and without guests complexed within the polyether ringThe authors thank the National Science Foundation EPS0091948 and the South Dakota 2010 Initiative for financial support Benjamin Kucera at the University of Minnesota Xray Diffraction Laboratory completed the structure determinations for compounds 2 and 4 The elemental analyzer was purchased using NSFURC funding CHE0532242
