Abstract

We performed immunohistochemical analyses measured inflammatory mediators and cytokines and quantified histamine release HR from peripheral basophils in MDIOA patients Thirteen MDIexposed workers five MDIOA two MDIinduced esoinophilic bronchitis and six asymptomatic exposed controls AEC were enrolledImmunochemical analyses indicated significantly increased antieosinophilic cationic proteinstained cells in MDIOA patients as compared with controls P  005 Sputum eosinophil cationic protein levels were increased after MDIspecific inhalation challenge test in MDIOA/EB patients P  002 Sputum eosinophil counts were highly correlated with IL8 and MMP9 levels P  005 and P  001 respectively Basophil HR was significantly increased in MDIOA patients after stimulations with antiIgG4 and MDI–human serum albumin conjugates both P  005 Eosinophil activation is a major feature of airway inflammation in MDIOA patients Increased HR by MDI may contribute to the pathogenic mechanisms of MDIOA
